I'm used to working with enterprise and other car rental companies because of how much I travel. This was my first time with advantage, and it was a great experience. No drama, no hassle, and simple. The only thing I didn't like was having to inspect for dents and scratches myself and then turn in the paper before I leave, but it only added a few minutes to the process. I wasn't in a hurry so it didn't matter.
Rental agent was very pleasant. The car was clean. The only problem encounter was a wait at the counter due to only one rental agent. But overall experience was good.
Overall the car was nice and pickup and drop off were smooth. But 2 weeks after they billed 90 dollars for tolls in Houston!! We didn't drive very far at all and I talked with my brother that I was visiting in Houston and he knew everywhere that we drove. He said at the very most we should have been charged 15 dollars for tolls. Additionally, I called to get the invoice for the charges and they said that they would email them to me...that was 3 days ago. Maybe Advantage is a good deal in non-toll parts of the country, but I would not recommend them anywhere tolls are present due to the way they price gouge.
Picked up the rental and car was charge an extra $100 because we picked it up early. The agent did not tell us the rate would change. Was given a car with no headrest and bad tires. We chose to change it for another vehicle. She stated the vehicle she was going to give us that vehicle's tag where expired. When we went to look at other vehicles to chose from we noticed the vehicle she spoke of the tags were good thru July 2019. Needless to say we did get a little better vehicle...But I do know we will NEVER rent from Advantage Rent A Car gain.
Firstly- the car I rented was fine. It was a new sedan with multiple options and a clean interior. That said, the staff at the kiosk were not either well trained or interested in assisting myself and my family. There was a problem regarding payment which had a simple solution (although it cost me a further 100 dollars) which I fortunately received from a Priceline rep I was talking to regarding the issue. The staff, had they been trained properly, would have had this solution in mind. They didn't though, and would have allowed me to lose my rental due to their incompetence. I would recommend one of Advantage's competitors; hopefully they will be better trained in offering all options and solutions to any problems.
