So peaceful. I was able to visit the grave of Jack Yates. And as a proud alumni of Yates High school, it was a pleasure. It also gave me opportunity to pay respect to army veterans that have been laid to rest. I spoke with my brother in law whose a former drill instructor and well visit again. Im glad I made this trip and thanks to all the volunteers that cleaned this cemetery up.
Another incredible historic African American cemetery in Houston's fourth ward that has mostly been neglected. Established during the time of racial segregation and when W. Dallas was known as San Felipe. Many notable burials. A stand out is that of Rev. Jack Yates. Heads up...the entrance is poorly marked and only a narrow gravel road leads in with little room to turn around. Parking is virtually non existent. I plan on going back for a better look.
